A man and woman charged with the murder of Michael Anton O'Connor in The Meadows have appeared before Nottingham Crown Court for the first time.

They were charged on Monday night (November 22) with the murder of the 31-year-old.

Jerome Sheard, 29, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows, and Rebecca Bell, 36, of Loughrigg Close, The Meadows, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, November 23, and their case was sent to Nottingham Crown Court today (Thursday, November 25).

The pair appeared separately over a video link from custody as well as Kerry-Anne Shepherd, 34, of Plantagenet Street, St. Ann's, who is facing an allegation of assisting an offender.

Details of her charge were read out at Nottingham Magistrates' Court earlier this week where it was said the assisting offender allegation regards transporting persons involved in a murder away from the crime by allowing them to use her car.

All three confirmed their names as they were read out by the court clerk this morning.

A bigger court was used to accommodate family members at the short hearing where bail applications can be made but none were put forward.

A further three people charged with the murder of Mr O'Connor did not appear at the hearing but were listed and all legally represented.

Paula Usherwood, 37, of Central Avenue, Beeston; Michael McGuire, 34, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows; and Curtis Sheard, 23, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows, were charged with murder on Tuesday night (November 23).

Usherwood was unable to join via a video link due to ill health, while video links were not established for McGuire and Curtis Sheard.

A further case management hearing for all accused will be on January 7 and all remain remanded in custody.

Mr O'Connor, from Alexandra Park, was found with fatal knife wounds after an alleged stabbing in Wilford Crescent West, in The Meadows, on Wednesday, November 10.

Paramedics and police arrived at the scene and tried to treat Mr O'Connor, but the 31-year-old died a short time later at the Queen's Medical Centre.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Routledge, who is leading the investigation, had said: "This has been a complex and fast-moving investigation and we are grateful to the public for their help.

"Our resolve to bring to justice those responsible for Michael's death will not waver.

"Clearly the charging of six people is a significant step but our enquiries continue and I'd urge anyone with information to get in touch with us."

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call 101, quoting incident 816 of November 10. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

A vigil was recently held for Mr O'Connor in The Meadows, with candles lit as people paid their respects - balloons and a teddy bear were also placed there.
