Cubs vs Brewers Predictions, Picks, Odds — 5-4

Original source (on modern site) | Article images: [1]

Despite Chicago having an advantage on the bump this afternoon, the Brewers offense comes in much better form. Our MLB picks believe that will be the difference in today's matchup.

The Milwaukee Brewers seek their fourth win in a row as they play the middle game of their 3-game set against their NL Central-rival Chicago Cubs this afternoon.

My Brewers vs. Cubs predictions for May 4 think they'll find what they seek, and my MLB picks below explain how they'll do it.

My analysis

The Chicago Cubs' offense has hit a wall in the last seven games. Including Friday's loss, Chicago has put up two or less five times over that stretch. Seventeen runs in seven games just isn't going to cut it.

As a team, the Cubs are hitting a paltry .181, the second-worst mark in baseball, while ranking Bottom 5 in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.

After surrendering 15 runs in each of two brutal losses to the Yankees, the Milwaukee Brewers' pitching has been sound, giving up just five runs in the last four games, going 3-1.

They've also scored 18 runs in that stretch, and the Brew Crew sit in fifth in runs scored, averaging 5.16 runs per game. They are one of only five teams that have crossed 160 runs on the season.

Milwaukee hands the ball to Tobias Myers, one of the starters lit on fire in those Yankees debacles.

He actually had a no-decision in that one after pitching five innings, giving up four earned runs and a couple of long balls while fanning five. Milwaukee has yet to pick up a win in his two starts this year.

It's just a matter of time before the Brewers' bats get Myers the support he needs. This is a team that's fifth in the majors in home runs, and Milwaukee is fourth in hitting (.258), and also Top 4 in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.

It's a good bet to happen this afternoon.

Brewers vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Brewers moneyline

Willy Contreras Over 0.5 runs

Jameson Taillon Under 4.5 strikeouts

Willy Contreras went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's win. That's now a run scored for the Brewers' catches in nine of the last 13 games, and he's tied for the second-most runs scored in baseball with Mookie Betts at 29, trailing only Ronald Acuna Jr. by a single run.

He's also plated in seven of the last 10 games against the Cubs. Contreras only has a small body of work against Taillon, but it's been fruitful, going 2-for-5 with a run batted in. Expect him to be a key part of the Brewers' offensive attack.

Jameson Taillon has yet to hit the five-strikeout total in any of his three starts this season and in his last five starts overall. He's also not been able to do it against the Brewers. In four starts over the past two seasons, Taillon has crossed Saturday's K-total with six.

The Under 4.5 line seems like a reasonable add-on to the SGP.
