The United Nations said Monday it was "alarmed" after Iraq's parliament passed a bill criminalising same-sex relations, which provides for sentences of up to 15 years in prison. Such laws "legitimise prejudice, expose people to hate crime, police abuse, harassment, intimidation, blackmail and torture", UN human rights office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said in a statement. rjm/vog/db
