WWE Raw results, recap, grades: The 2024 WWE Draft concludes, CM Punk baits Drew McIntyre, Mahomes helps Paul

After kicking off the 2024 WWE Draft on SmackDown this past Friday, the draft came to a close during Monday night's edition of Raw. There were a few surprises along the way, but maybe none bigger than Drew McIntyre tumbling all the way to the end of the third round.

With McIntyre's recent attitude shift and the fact that CM Punk was drafted ahead of him, this led to some big frustration for the Scottish Warrior.

The WWE Draft concludes, CM Punk outsmarts Drew McIntyre

Some expected big names were taken in the early rounds, with Gunther (along with Ludwig Kaiser) as the first pick of the draft for Raw, followed by SmackDown locking down top prospect Jade Cargill. CM Punk was taken by Raw in the first pick of the second round, making him Monday's fifth overall pick. It wouldn't be until pick No. 11 until McIntyre had his name called.

A furious McIntyre ranted about the situation, claiming Punk broke his elbow when he attacked at WrestleMania. McIntyre said he tapes up his injuries and continues to show up, no matter what, unlike Punk, who then appeared in a luxury box, taunting McIntyre. McIntyre tried to track Punk down, eventually finding the luxury box only for Punk to come to the ring, forcing McIntyre to watch as Punk cut a promo on his plan to make McIntyre's life hell once Punk is cleared from the torn tricep suffered back at the Royal Rumble.

The WWE Draft is always complicated to watch as a fan. It can't operate fully on logic because that wouldn't serve the goal of setting up the Raw and SmackDown rosters for the next year, but when picks simply don't make sense, it gets distracting. That was certainly the case in 2024. At least the interactions between Punk and McIntyre remain razor sharp, with both men constantly making valid points about the other, leaving it to the viewer who is actually in the right. Grade: C

What else happened on WWE Raw?

• Gunther def. Xavier Woods via submission with a modified STF. Gunther brutalized Woods in the match, taking out Woods' leg and attacking the limb over and over until the finish.
• Braun Strowman saved Jey Uso from an attack by Logan Paul, JD McDonagh, Finn Balor and Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes was shown with Paul and The Judgment Day at the top of the show. After Paul and IShowSpeed announced the second-round draft picks, Paul went to the ring to cut a promo on Uso about how Uso was going to lose to Damian Priest at Backlash. Uso came to the ring and McDonagh and Balor then snuck in behind him. Mahomes, seated at ringside, gave Paul his three Super Bowl rings, but Paul inadvertently hit McDonagh with before finally getting Uso. Strowman, who had just been picked to Raw, made his return, chasing Paul off and briefly confronting Mahomes.
• Intercontinental Championship -- Sami Zayn (c) def. Bronson Reed via disqualification after interference by Chad Gable. Zayn had hit Gable with a Helluva Kick backstage ahead of the match and Gable ran in after Zayn had hit Reed with the same move. Reed then hit Zayn with a Tsunami before attacking Gable as well.
• Candice LeRae def. Maxxine Dupri via pinfall after a surfboard stomp. Dupri, who was talked down to by Chad Gable before the match, was distracted when Ivy Nile was attacked by Indi Hartwell at ringside.
• Liv Morgan def. Nia Jax via pinfall with Oblivion. The match came about after an early show segment featuring the two and Becky Lynch, with Jax saying that she was taking one of the two out before moving to SmackDown. Jax had the match in hand but was distracted when Tiffany Stratton and Naomi began brawling at ringside, setting up the finish.
• World Tag Team Championship -- Awesome Truth (c) def. Alpha Academy via pinfall after hitting Akira Tozawa with the Truth-Crushing Finale. Gable told Tozawa and Otis they needed to get the job done but they came up short, continuing Gable's struggles with the group.
• Jey Uso, Ricochet & Andrade def. The Judgment Day via pinfall when Uso pinned Finn Balor after an Uso Splash. Damian Priest seemingly had the match won, ready to slam Uso off the top rope but McDonagh misguidedly shoved Uso off the top rope. In the ensuing chaos, Uso was able to get the pin on Balor.
