Delhi, India

Carbon dioxide levels would be double compared to today.

According to the study, the Earth would become too hot to survive and would have just one supercontinent.

Millions of people in the world firmly believe that doomsday or the end of the world is bound to happen at some point in time. Now thanks to the advanced era that we are a part of, scientists may have just discovered the apocalypse date.

As per a Daily Mail report, a study was carried out recently, according to which the earth could end in 250 million years. The study was done by researchers at the University of Bristol, using computer simulations. It revealed that the day would bring about a mass extinction, wiping out all mammals.

According to reports, if any life form somehow survives, they would have to live in temperatures between 40 degrees Celsius and 70 degrees Celsius. This would be the second mass extinction since the dinosaurs were killed about 66 million years ago when a space rock hit the earth causing its first catastrophe.

Dr Alexander Farnsworth, a senior research associate from the School of Geographical Sciences, at the University of Bristol, authored the study. He said that the future looks very "bleak" as the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would be double compared to today. Because of that, humans and other species would not be able to cool their bodies through sweating, and simply die out.

The researchers stated further that in 250 million years, all the continents would have moved closer to becoming a single supercontinent called Pangea Ultima. The land would be the shape of a doughnut, comprising an inland sea, right in the middle, which was earlier the Atlantic Ocean. The Pacific Ocean would cover most of the surface of the planet. However, the hypothetical existence of Pangea Ultima is just one of the possibilities of how would the supercontinent look when the tectonic plates shift.

No matter how the continents align, scientists are sure that Earth will one day form a single massive land mass; uninhabitable, hot and dry.
