This month's recommendations include new seasons of beloved favorites, a couple of animated treats for families and adults, and a mind-bending new sci-fi series.

TAGGED AS: streaming, TV

The big-screen blockbusters of the summer movie season may tend to dominate the pop culture conversation, but that doesn't mean we don't also have some exciting series coming our way in May. We asked you to vote for your most anticipated TV or streaming show of May, and the results were pretty eclectic, with the top five beating the likes of Doctor Who and Emmy-winner Hacks. Read on for the Most Anticipated TV and Streaming Shows of May!

No. 1

Premiere Date: May 12, 2024 on AMC

While it's probably not a shock to see Interview with the Vampire on the list, it may be a pleasant surprise for some to see it at the very top. The first season of AMC's adaptation of the Anne Rice novel was a hit that developed a cult following and ended with something of a cliffhanger, so anticipation is understandably high for season 2.

No. 2

Premiere Date: May 8, 2024 on Apple TV+

Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly star in series creator Blake Crouch's adaptation of his own 2016 novel, which follows a man who is transported into an alternate version of his own life and struggles not only to return home but to protect his family from the alternate version of himself. We thought the multiverse craze was on its way out, but judging from the interest in this show, it looks like there's still some (alternate) life in it.

No. 3

Premiere Date: May 4, 2024 on Disney+

Star Wars stalwart Dave Filoni's animated 2022 anthology series Tales of the Jedi was a big hit with critics and audiences, so hopes are high for his follow-up from the other side of the Force, Tales of the Empire. Just as Tales of the Jedi focused on the stories of two characters, Tales of the Empire will do the same with Morgan Elsbeth (portrayed in The Mandalorian by Diana Lee Inosanto) and former Jedi Barriss Offee (last seen in The Clone Wars). Appropriately, it premieres on May the 4th.

No. 4

Premiere Date: May 16, 2024 (Part 1); June 13, 2024 (Part 2) on Netflix

Netflix's romance series Bridgerton kicked off with a bang when its first season premiered during the height of COVID lockdown, and its second season reached the top of the streaming platform's viewership numbers. In other words, the series' fans remain fully invested, which makes its appearance on this month's list a foregone conclusion. The first four episodes will debut on May 16, and the second four will drop on June 13.

No. 5

Premiere Date: May 10, 2024 on Netflix

Rounding out the top five of the month is this animated gem on Netflix, which returns after a stellar first season that dropped all the way back in 2020. Set in mythical ancient Greece, the series centers on Heron, the demigod son of Zeus, who struggles to restore balance to the world after Zeus's death as Hades attempts to secure the vacant throne. The show is a bit of an under-the-radar treat for fans of adult animation, so its long-overdue second season is a welcome addition to the May lineup.
