(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) It's been an unimaginable month for the Reed family as they try to save their newborn twins' lives.

Austin and Amanda Reed found out their sons, Eli and Easton, need a special gene therapy because they have Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Amanda's insurance wasn't going to cover the $4.2 million that the therapy cost, so her stepsister, Kecia Vant Hof, made a GoFundMe to help the family.

"Everyone is just reaching out from across the country and wanting to help any way they can, whether it's with donations or support groups or linking us to people who have children who also have been diagnosed with SMA", Vant Hof said Thursday.

In short amount of time, the account racked up more than $380,000 from more than 9.2 donations.

On Wednesday afternoon, Amanda made a Facebook post telling people that there is hope the boys will soon get the gene therapy they need.

Vant Hof said the family is blessed and incredible grateful for the generosity of so many people that have seen Eli and Easton's story.

"My family, in particular, has stayed very strong in their faith," Vant Hof said. "And you know, we've been praying and reaching out to our church groups and everything like that. And so, I'm just hopeful that these boys have a bright future, and they can spread their story and their love to the rest of the world too, as they grow up."
