Despite recent visit, Rashaad Penny won't be returning to Seattle

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported early Monday morning that the veteran running back will be signing the Carolina Panthers. Penny spent the 2023 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, making sporadic appearances on offense and special teams (38 combined snaps) and frequently getting healthy scratches.

Unfortunately, Penny's career has been heavily affected by injuries since coming into the league in 2018. He had minor injuries that cost him some time as a rookie throughout preseason and in the regular season, then suffered a torn ACL toward the end of what was a promising 2019 season. The severity of his injury led to him missing most of 2020, then he missed several games in 2021 with a calf issue before an outstanding finish led to Seattle re-signing him for 2022. Penny's season (and Seahawks career) came to an end with a broken fibula against the New Orleans Saints.

Last month, the 28-year-old visited the Seahawks as a free agent. John Schneider indicated that bringing him back was a possibility, but as it turns out it never developed into reality.

Penny may not be signing with the Seahawks, but he might as well be signing with Seahawks East. The Panthers have former Seahawks assistant Dave Canales as head coach, several former Pete Carroll assistants on Canales' coaching staff (including Pete's son Nate), former front office executive Dan Morgan as general manager, as well as ex-Seahawks players David Moore, Stephen Sullivan, Damien Lewis, and Jadeveon Clowney.
