CHARLOTTE—The Panthers made a significant addition to the backfield during the NFL draft and added some depth there Monday. The Panthers have agreed to terms with running back Rashaad Penny. Penny, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Seahawks in 2018 (when Panthers head coach Dave Canales was an assistant there). The 5-foot-11, 220-pounder spent last year with the Eagles, appearing in three games. He ran for 749 yards and six touchdowns in 2021 and has 1,951 yards and 13 touchdowns in 45 career games. He's dealt with injury issues in the past, including a torn ACL, but has a 5.6 yards per carry average when he's played. The Panthers added to the running backs room by drafting Jonathon Brooks in the second round, adding him to Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders, and Raheem Blackshear. The Panthers also have Tarik Cohen, Spencer Brown and Mike Boone on the roster.
