Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing are gearing up for the release, hoping to deliver the fabulous RTS experience that the game is synonymous with in this next instalment. The game originally began its life as a crowdfunding project in 2019, quickly smashing its goal when Gearbox stepped in to help publish it. Now we're near the release, this is what we can expect from the legendary RTS game, including a release date, gameplay, trailers, and more. Homeworld 3 will be released on Monday, May 13 2024. As per information from Blackbird Interactive, this date has been set following a significant delay in the game's release. After several playtests for Homeworld 3, Blackbird and Gearbox said in a joint statement that this new release date was set after "careful analysis of feedback", all in the name of offering the best experience. Homeworld 3 will be released at the same time worldwide while some players can get early access depending on the edition of the game they purchase. Announced back in 2019, Homeworld 3 has been in development for the past few years. It originally began as a crowdfunding project. The original release date for Homeworld 3 was 2022, Homeworld 3 would suffer another delay after this one in 2022. In May 2023, Blackbird Interactive announced another delay, pushing the game back even further to ensure it delivered the "highest quality". All of the delays have been for final tweaks and to ensure the level of quality is there for Homeworld 3. As per the information on the game's steam listing, Homeworld 3 will unlock and become available on May 13. If the Steam timer is accurate, Homeworld 3 will be available in the UK on roughly Monday, May 13 at 7 AM. These timings line up with when Steam puts new games live on its storefront, and this time will be updated with a confirmed window closer to the release of the full game. As it stands, both editions of Homeworld 3 will be released at the same time worldwide. As such, the game will be available on May 13 in most time zones, with some regions like Japan getting access to the game on May 14. You can get 72 hours of early access to Homeworld 3 if you preorder the Fleet Command edition. This will mean you can play the game before it launches, as of May 10. Outside of this early access period, the developers have said that there will be no preload for Homeworld 3, meaning everyone will have to download it as and when the game becomes available. Homeworld 3 isn't just a single-player game. Like any good RTS, Homeworld 3 features fights against other people, as well as a multiplayer that is brand new for the series. The multiplayer mode will blend together the classic Homeworld RTS with roguelike aspects, where one or two of you will take on randomised combat challenges. This co-op mode is separate from the main game and takes place after the events of the campaign. War Games rewards you with artefacts to upgrade your fleet and improve the tools you have at your disposal. There is currently a War Games public demo available on Steam and the Epic Games Store, which you can download. If you're familiar with the original games, you will get much of what you expect from Homeworld 3. These games have always focused on 3D RTS (real-time strategy) gameplay, where you command ships through the galaxy and create an intimidating force. You will have to navigate foes and dangerous anomaly such as asteroid fields and particle storms as you engage in fleet combat. There is a campaign which will see you complete objectives and maps to continue the story. Typically, each map will be decided by your victory over the enemy or your defeat, the latter of which will result in a game-over. Outside of the main campaign, there is a multiplayer mode and a skirmish mode where you can fight AI teams. There are three versions of Homeworld 3 available on the Steam and Epic Games Store. The base edition gets you access to, you guessed it, the base game. The Deluxe edition gets you the base game and Year One pass, which is effectively a season pass for new content. The final edition, the Fleet Commander Edition, comes with everything and then some.
