In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Kiran Rao shared that she had experienced numerous

miscarriages

health issues

during her efforts to conceive a child.

Kiran Rao explained that she and Aamir Khan tried very hard to have a child over five years, facing several miscarriages and personal health challenges. Despite these struggles, Rao remained determined to have a child, and the birth of Azad was a pivotal moment in her life. She expressed that raising Azad was her primary focus, stating, "All I wanted to do was raise my baby."

After Azad's birth, Kiran Rao took a break from directing films, prioritizing her role as a mother. Reflecting on this decision, she expressed no regrets about not making a film for over a decade, citing the joy she found in her son's upbringing as some of the best years of her life.

In the same conversation, Kiran Rao shared that Azad does not currently have an interest in pursuing a career in acting. Instead, he is more drawn to art, music, and animation.
