Tinder

, the

dating app

, has announced the launch of a new feature called "

Share My Date

," which will allow users to easily share details about their upcoming dates with friends and family. The company says that the feature aims to provide an extra layer of safety for users while also streamlining the process of keeping loved ones informed about their dating plans.

Half the Tinder users under 30 already share date details

According to Tinder, around 51 percent of users under 30 already share date details with their friends, while 19 percent share this information with their mothers.

The company's new feature is designed to make this process more convenient by generating a single link that points to the date's details, including the date, time, location, and a picture of the person the user is meeting, along with a link to their profile.

Users can also add personal notes to the shared link, such as "I think this could be the one" or "call the police if I'm not back by 8 p.m." While the latter may be a joke, the feature's primary goal is to give Tinder users an added sense of security when meeting strangers for dates.

The Share My Date feature allows users to create an unlimited number of shareable URLs, which can be set up to 30 days in advance. This flexibility caters to users who may have multiple dates planned and want to keep their loved ones informed about each one.

Additionally, users can edit their date plans, ensuring that those with access to the shared link have the most up-to-date information. This customization option is particularly useful for users who may need to change the location or time of their date at the last minute.

Tinder plays catch-up to other dating apps

Tinder is not the first platform to introduce a feature focused on user safety and location sharing. In 2020,

Match.com

launched a "check-in" feature that allowed users to send date details to emergency contacts if things were not going well.

Similarly, Google Maps and Apple's iMessage have a location-sharing feature in their apps that notifies users when a friend or family member has arrived at or left a specific place.

The Share My Date feature will be rolled out over the coming months in several countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Singapore, India, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Switzerland, Mexico, the Netherlands, Italy, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand.
