British Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden accused the Chinese hacking group APT31 of attempting to conduct reconnaissance on the email accounts of UK lawmakers in the summer of 2021. APT31, described as a "China-nexus cyber espionage actor" by cybersecurity firm Mandiant, focuses on obtaining information that could benefit the Chinese government and state-owned enterprises. Dowden stated that despite the attempts, the hacking efforts to compromise the email accounts of UK lawmakers were unsuccessful.
