T20 World Cup: West Indies cricket board gets terror threat from Pak-based terror group

The world cup is set to take place between June 1 and June 29 and will be co-hosted by West Indies and the US.

West Indies, the co-host of the T20 men's world cup, said it has received security threats to the tournament from a Pakistan-based terror group, according to a report by Cricbuzz. However, Cricket West Indies (CWI), the organising board, has assured all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a safe tournament, the report said.

The T20 world cup is set to take place between June 1 and June 29 and will be co-hosted by West Indies and the US.

"Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries," the security threat cited in the report said.

The regional media in the Caribbean island said authorities are undertaking steps to track all the threats, according to the report.

The world cup matches will take place in the West Indian cities of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, while in the US, the matches will be held in Florida, New York, and Texas. The semi-finals will take place in Trinidad and Guyana, while Barbados will host the final on June 29.
