Maharashtra Congress leader Arif Naseem Khan has resigned from three different party committees, expressing dejection over the party not nominating a single Muslim candidate on 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

In his letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Naseem Khan said, "Congress ko Muslim vote chahiye, candidate kyu nahi (Congress wants Muslim votes but why not field Muslim candidates)?"

Sources in the Congress said that Naseem Khan was not happy with Varsha Gaikwad being given a ticket from Mumbai North Central seat. Naseem Khan wanted to contest from this seat.

Khan also said he won't be campaigning for any party candidate in the Lok Sabha elections even as he has been named among the star campaigners.

"Whenever party had given me election responsibility of states like Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal, Maharashtra and other states, I have executed it gracefully with my full efforts in favour of party. Due to all these reasons, I will not be able to face Muslims and other Muslim organisations in Maharashtra who always raise such issues," he said.
