Apple and Samsung dominated the list of the top 10 best-selling smartphones in the first quarter of 2024. According to a report by Counterpoint, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was the highest-selling smartphone in Q1 2024 , followed by other iPhone models. Both Apple and Samsung secured five positions and left no room for other competitors on the list. Moreover, this quarter marked the first time that all top 10 smartphones were 5G-enabled. Seven out of the top 10 smartphones on the list were also classified as premium, with a wholesale price of $600 and above. This suggests a trend towards premiumisation. In Q1 2024 , the iPhone Pro models also captured half of Apple's total sales, the report added. The sales of Pro models in this quarter also saw a significant 24% increase compared to Q1 2020. The iPhone Pro models also contributed over 60% of its sales value in Q1 2024 to become the major revenue drivers for the company. Galaxy S24 series also secured two spots in the top 10 list of highest-selling smartphones in Q1 2024. The Ultra variant in the lineup ranked fifth and the base variant took the ninth spot.

This was the first time for a Pro Max variant to claim the top spot in Apple's non-seasonal quarter. This indicates a growing consumer preference for high-end smartphones. All four variants of the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 14 also made it to the list of top 10 bestsellers. Moreover, the iPhone 15 lineup secured the top three positions.

The success of the Galaxy S24 series can be credited to Samsung's early update of the lineup and its focus on generative AI (GenAI) technology. The Galaxy S24 series was the first to introduce GenAI features and capabilities to the market.
