Sandeep Singh's directorial debut, Safed, is a love story between a widow (Meera Chopra) and a transgender (Abhay Verma). It also stars Barkha Bisht. In an exclusive conversation with Times Now/ Telly Talk, Sandeep opened up about what went wrong between him and his friend Mouni Roy. He revealed that he had offered the role to her first but she turned it down. Singh also accused Mouni of cutting all ties with him when he was involved in the controversy involving Sushant Singh Rajput.

Did Mouni get back to you saying she is not doing your film, Safed?

I had approached both my friends Ankita Lokhande and Mouni Roy for this film. They read the script and loved it. However, both of them backed out probably because of the fact that I was embroiled in a controversy.

I am deeply hurt by Mouni Roy. She was one of my best friends, she used to follow me on Instagram, we used to hang out and go for dinners and lunches. Whenever she wanted to meet a big filmmaker, I used to go along with her. I even met her husband, Suraj, long before they got married. When the Sushant Singh Rajput controversy erupted, she was the first one who backed out and unfollowed me.

She stopped messaging me or replying to my texts. I was shocked. Both of us are also born on the same date - 28 September - but both of our behaviours are totally different. It's about being honest. You cannot just leave your friend in the middle of something where he needs you the most. She did that to me. I am still very hurt by it. She didn't even have the guts to call me to her wedding. But I want to tell Mouni that if something goes wrong with her, I will be the first person to go to her.

Did you text her?

I have texted her but she replies to some. She understood that the filmmaker I was taking her to might end up giving the film to her so she must have thought 'ab kya fayda'.

But you tried your best to get her roles?

Yes, of course I did. She is a good dancer and an actor but she has not been given her due. I think now she has decided to become a star on Instagram.
