The incident came to light after a former student of the university filed an RTI questioning marking of answer sheets of four students and lodged a complaint with the office of the governor, who happens to be the university's chancellor.

Thereafter, a probe was ordered, and the students were given zero marks.

According to the sources, the former student, who had filed the RTI, sent the details to the state governor, demanding a thorough probe. Taking cognizance of the matter, the Raj Bhawan ordered a probe, following which a committee was formed. Based on the committee report, action was recommended against two faculty members of the concerned department. They will be sacked once the university receives clearance from the Raj Bhawan, a senior official of the university said.

The vice-chancellor of VBS Purvanchal University, Prof Vandana Singh said that the examination committee has recommended action against the teachers, which will be put before the executive committee for approval.
