Guwahati: The second phase of polling in seven Lok Sabha constituencies across Assam, Tripura, and Manipur concluded on Friday with an average voter turnout surpassing 75%. According to the Election Commission of India, the voter turnout in Assam's Karimganj, Silchar, Diphu, Nagaon, and Darrang-Udalguri seats averaged over 71%, while Tripura East recorded over 80 %, and outer Manipur witnessed over 77 % in the 13 assembly segments. The polling process was mostly peaceful, barring reports of intimidation by suspected militants, vandalism in polling stations and destruction of EVMs in Manipur.
The constituencies that went to polls included five in Assam, one in Tripura, and 13 assembly segments of one constituency (outer Manipur) in Manipur, collectively representing an electorate of more than 95 lakh.
9.71% voter turnout in Assam with varied percentages in different constituencies. Manipur and Tripura also saw polling with notable candidates contesting. Outer Manipur has 13 assembly segments, while Tripura East has nine candidates for 13.96 lakh voters.
Eleven polling stations in Inner Manipur observed high voter turnout, prompting repoll by EC due to violence and machine destruction. Similar action taken in eight polling stations in Arunachal Pradesh, impacting voter participation in the region.
