KOLKATA/MALDA: PM Narendra

Modi

on Friday attacked

TMC

for putting the "livelihood of 26,000 families" at stake after Calcutta HC's school-job-scrap order.

"TMC has played with the future of Bengal's youths. Nearly 26,000 families' income has stopped because of the school recruitment scam. They now also have the burden to pay off the loan they had taken to pay TMC leaders," he said at a poll rally in Malda, his first in Bengal after the HC order scrapping nearly 26,000 school jobs.

The PM bracketed TMC and Congress on the "inheritance tax" issue and questioned the former's silence, slamming them for their "plans" to give wealth to "infiltrators".

"Loot zindagi ke saath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi (Loot in life and after death)," he said. "Congress's Shahzada has brought an X-ray machine for that. They want to confiscate everyone's property and wealth first and then distribute a portion to their vote bank. TMC has never spoken against that. They are trying to impose 55% tax on your property after your death. They want to confiscate more than half of your lifelong savings. The proceeds will go to their vote bank."

Malda has two constituencies — Malda (North) and Malda (South) — and Muslims form 51% of the population. BJP won Malda (North) and Congress Malda (South) in 2019. TMC has a presence in both seats and made significant gains in rural polls.
