Google Introduces 'Select Text' Feature In Gemini App, How To Use

Today, within the Gemini app for Android, users can now issue prompts in the form of text, images, or voice commands and receive text responses in return. Occasionally, users may receive a response that they wish to save for future reference. Currently, the process involves copying the entire response and pasting it wherever needed. However, users are unable to selectively copy portions of the text without resorting to alternative methods.

To address this inconvenience, Google is planning to introduce a new feature called "Select text" within the Gemini app for Android. This feature aims to allow users to choose specific portions of Gemini's response and copy them for pasting elsewhere. As reported by AssembleDebug and shared with Android Authority, the "Select text" option will be located in the same area where the existing "Copy text" tool is found within chatbot conversations.

While this may seem like a minor change, it has the potential to significantly enhance the usability of the Gemini app on Android devices. Currently, to copy only a portion of the text, users must either copy the entire response and then extract the desired section or resort to capturing a screenshot and utilizing Google Lens (or Circle to Search) to extract text from the image. However, both of these methods are not particularly convenient, making the introduction of the "Select text" option a welcome improvement.

The exact timeline for the rollout of this feature by Google remains unclear. However, users are hopeful that it will be implemented in the near future, as it promises to streamline the process of copying and pasting text within the Gemini app for Android.
