I-80 and US-50 Back Open After Spinouts Prompt Closures

As of Sunday morning, traffic on I-80 has been released in both directions and chain controls are no longer in effect.

Update, Saturday, May 4, 11:30 p.m.:

According to Caltrans, westbound traffic is now released with chain controls in Truckee. 

They say westbound I-80 will remain closed at the Nevada state line until the traffic in Truckee moves through, with no estimated time.

Update, Saturday, May 4, 9:15 p.m.:

As of 9:15 p.m., traffic has been released with chain controls on eastbound I-80. 

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel drive with snow tires.

Westbound I-80 is still closed at the Nevada State line.

According to Caltrans and the Truckee California Highway Patrol, traffic on I-80 is being turned around in both directions due to multiple spinouts and crashes over the pass.

Crash on westbound I-80 near the Boca/Hirschdale exit

Eastbound traffic is being turned at Colfax, and westbound traffic is being turned at the Nevada State Line.

Traffic is also being held on US-50 in both directions at Sand Flat and Echo Summit going eastbound, and at Meyers going westbound.

There is currently no estimated time of reopening for either road.
