TRUCKEE -- Interstate 80 reopened Sunday morning with no chain restrictions after a late-season storm dropped snow in the Sierra and closed the interstate for multiple hours due to spinouts and collisions over Donner Summit. Following the closure, eastbound traffic was released with chain controls in place from Alta to the Nevada state line around 8:45 p.m. Saturday. By 11 p.m., westbound traffic was released in Truckee with chain controls while the interstate was closed from Truckee to the state line. By 11 a.m. Sunday, the interstate was reopened with no restrictions. Over on Highway 50, crews were holding eastbound traffic at Meyers due to spinouts. It reopened with no chain controls on Sunday as well. Traffic was turned around on Highway 20 at Nevada Street but reopened with chain controls in effect from about nine miles east of Nevada City to the I-80 junction as of 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Palisades Tahoe reported its resort received 26 inches in 24 hours. In the valley, thunderstorms developed in the afternoon, bringing brief heavy downpours, lighting, small hail and gusty winds.
