WR Xavier Worthy speaks at Chiefs rookie minicamp in Kansas City

The Chiefs rookie class is getting their first taste of life as professionals in Kansas City. A week ago, they were NFL prospects. Today, they are NFL players. The Chiefs had to wait a few days, but they finally got a chance to see the players they picked up in last week's draft. All seven 2024 NFL Draft picks for Kansas City were on the field for rookie camp, including the team's top pick, wide receiver Xavier Worthy.On Saturday, the wideout got his first chance to speak with reporters in person. "It's been fun, learning the new offense and seeing how they run stuff, and just getting the flow of things," Worthy said. "It reminds me a lot of Sark's (Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian) playbook, a lot of similarities, just a lot of different names to it. It's going to be fun to play in this offense."Worthy also said he isn't quite sure what his role will be like in 2024, but that he's ready to whatever is asked of him."The expectation of me was to come in willing to work," Worthy said. "Whatever they need me to do - whatever I have to do - I'm going to do it to get on the field. For me, always to play and be the best me, that's my expectation."It wasn't just the Chiefs who were interested in the Texas wideout, Kansas City had long been on Worthy's radar as a desired landing spot. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was naturally a major factor in drawing his attention. "Yeah. Anywhere with a quarterback, I feel like that was my main spot. Pat (Mahomes) - I feel like everybody would want to play for Pat with how amazing of a quarterback he is and how versatile he is," Worthy said.Finally, the receiver was also asked about what he had picked up in his first week practicing with the team and his fellow rookies. "Just establishing the playbook. Getting a firm understanding of the playbook so I know where to line up come training camp, so I'm already affiliated, know what I'm doing, know where I'm lining up and know the plays I'm running," Worthy said.On Sunday, the Chiefs second-round pick, tackle Kingsley Suamataia also got his first chance to speak with local reporters in Kansas City. Another rookie Chiefs with the chance to contribute immediately in 2024, is tight end Jared Wiley. The fourth-round pick out of TCU also spoke over the weekend.
