Fantasy Baseball SP Roundup: Hit Me With Your Best Scott | Pitcher List

Christian Scott (NYM) @ TBR (ND) - 6.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 Hits, 1 BBs, 6 Ks - 18 Whiffs, 35% CSW, 94 pitches.

The Mets called up their exciting prospect arm Christian Scott and he was as advertised. After a difficult first frame where the first three batters recorded hits and one run already on the board, Scott allowed just three more baserunners across the rest of his debut, including a 3-2 walk and a single on his final pitch, stamping his place in MLB lore with 6.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 Hits, 1 BBs, 6 Ks - 18 Whiffs, 35% CSW, 94 pitches. Blame it on the Rays? A little, but in short, he's an arm to add to all your squads.

He's mostly a four-seamer + sweeper right-hander with a rare split that needs refinement. There's also a slider that acts like a cutter at 87/88 mph that returned a lovely 71% strike rate at 41% CSW, though I'm a little skeptical it can replicate its results given how rarely it found the zone and relied on chases off the plate.

The main two? Glorious. His four-seamer precision in the upper third is stellar, paired with 95/96 mph at a fantastic HAVAA makes the pitch difficult to barrel, and returned a blissful 20% SwStr rate as it pounded the zone. Meanwhile, the sweeper was consistent both in and out of the zone, earning a near 79% strike rate as well. In short, he earns strikes with three pitches while missing bats, too.

Again, this was the Rays. He also faced few LHB, which may be a weak point for Scott with his sweeper focus. It's unfortunate to see Atlanta on the horizon for the young arm, though I'd still pick him up now and even consider a start there for those in deeper leagues. His strike-heavy approach allowed him to nearly go seven full at 94 pitches and he has a chance to survive against an Atlanta offense that has seen better days. At any rate, the Mets would be foolish to send Scott down to the minors now, making Scott a potential hold for the rest of the season. Add him wherever you still can.

Logan Gilbert (SEA) @ HOU (W) - 8.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 Hits, 4 BBs, 6 Ks - 13 Whiffs, 25% CSW, 96 pitches.

Aces gonna ace. Even with the four walks, the man deserves it for what he's accomplished this season. Pretty cool to see the curveball wake up for 9/13 strikes here, stepping up as his slider was more chaotic than usual, and I'm more of a believer in Gilbert than ever with his cutter wildly helping earn strikes in each start. Atta boy.

Jared Jones (PIT) vs COL (ND) - 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 Hits, 0 BBs, 10 Ks - 17 Whiffs, 35% CSW, 96 pitches.

Aces gonna ace. I'm so glad to see A) The velocity return in full and B) His fastball command get calibrated to its normal dominance in the zone. Sigh. He's so good.

John Means (BAL) @ CIN (W) - 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 Hits, 0 BBs, 8 Ks - 19 Whiffs, 39% CSW, 85 pitches.

In his return from TJS, Means gave himself the gift of a Golden Goal and you really should get Means wherever you still can. He elevated his elite iVB four-seamer, kept his slider and curve gloveside, dominated with changeups armside, and now pitches for a legit Baltimore team to keep the Wins flowing. This may be the dude Fast and I dreamed of back in 2021. Sigh.

Austin Gomber (COL) @ PIT (ND) - 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 4 Hits, 2 BBs, 3 Ks - 8 Whiffs, 30% CSW, 88 pitches.

Everyone is a major leaguer for a reason. I'm glad Gomber had himself a nice day at the park, I hope the cake was delicious at your Birthday Party.

Jameson Taillon (CHC) vs MIL (W) - 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 Hits, 2 BBs, 7 Ks - 7 Whiffs, 29% CSW, 99 pitches.

Atta boy Taillon. Some incredible command here with four-seamers up, cutters in the zone, and curveballs down. Seriously, this may have been the best command across the board I've seen from him. You love to see it and now he gets a revenge game against the Pirates. Sign me up.

Michael King (SDP) @ ARI (W) - 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 6 Hits, 0 BBs, 3 Ks - 7 Whiffs, 24% CSW, 91 pitches.

Please stop asking questions about King. You want King. Roster King. Start King. He is PeaKing.

Kevin Gausman (TOR) @ WSN (W) - 5.1 IP, 0 ER, 3 Hits, 2 BBs, 8 Ks - 14 Whiffs, 34% CSW, 112 pitches.

Aces gonna ace with 12/38 splitter whiffs and 23/63 four-seamer called strikes. FINALLY. You can exhale now.

Jake Irvin (WSN) vs TOR (L) - 5.0 IP, 0 ER, 5 Hits, 1 BBs, 4 Ks - 6 Whiffs, 24% CSW, 107 pitches.

Another oddly good start from Irvin, despite a collective 20% CSW on 50 sinkers + curveballs. That doesn't seem sustainable. I WONDER WHY.

Brennan Bernardino (BOS) @ MIN (ND) - 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 Hits, 0 BBs, 1 Ks - 1 Whiffs, 25% CSW, 12 pitches.

Oh, so we're going total Bullpen Game now. Nah, Chase Anderson showed up! Yeah, for two innings and 35 pitches in the final two innings. FINE.

Paul Blackburn (OAK) vs MIA (W) - 7.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 Hits, 1 BBs, 3 Ks - 11 Whiffs, 19% CSW, 105 pitches.

See y'all? It's easy. Start Blackburn against the poor offenses, throw him back to the wire for the rest. Paulie Punchouts makes it simple and the Mariners should be a decent start, too.

Zack Littell (TBR) vs NYM (ND) - 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 6 Hits, 0 BBs, 7 Ks - 19 Whiffs, 38% CSW, 87 pitches.

Atta boy Littell. Sliders and splitters befuddled the Mets for 15 whiffs between them, propelling a Gallows Pole and a strong outing opposite Scott. This may have been the best command I've seen from Littell all season as well, living on the edges with all his pitches, and earning his full six innings. It gets harder now, sadly, with the Yankees up next, though if he has the same command, we should see similar results.

Ben Lively (CLE) vs LAA (W) - 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 Hits, 3 BBs, 5 Ks - 6 Whiffs, 25% CSW, 85 pitches.

The party keeps bumping as Lively returned another solid outing for trusting managers. Just six whiffs and 25% CSW?! Yeaaaaah, he got away with this one. His fastball wasn't commanded nearly as well and it's starting to feel like the wheels are falling off. But the CrySox are next! That's a tough call, right? We're seeing the magic fade as Big Ben is striking midnight, but maybe Chicago can keep the dream alive for one more start. After that? The Rangers. Ah. So just one more. One last gasp.

Pablo López (MIN) vs BOS (W) - 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 Hits, 1 BBs, 8 Ks - 19 Whiffs, 31% CSW, 99 pitches.

Aces gonna ace. That's a Gallows Pole with four-seamer domination at 11 whiffs, changeups armside, and sweepers gloveside. WE BACK BAYBEEEE. But the four-seamer wasn't delicately spotted. WE ALMOST BACK BAYBEEEE.

Tyler Glasnow (LAD) vs ATL (W) - 7.0 IP, 2 ER, 5 Hits, 1 BBs, 10 Ks - 14 Whiffs, 32% CSW, 96 pitches.

Aces gonna ace, even against Atlanta. That's why he's an ace.

Andrew Abbott (CIN) vs BAL (L) - 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 7 Hits, 0 BBs, 8 Ks - 13 Whiffs, 37% CSW, 84 pitches.

This looked like a rough one on paper - the fierce Blatimore offense in Cin City - and huge props to Abbott for eight strikeouts with just two runs in the books. The sweeper and curve did most of the work here, though his four-seamer in the zone was good enough to set up the breakers inside the zone. Maybe that's the solution for Abbott - fastball strikes and breakers along the edges - though I haven't seen it a great deal across his career save for his early outings last summer. At the very least, it's the Giants in Oracle Park next and that seems like a solid start to target. Here's to hoping he's launching new run of dominance.

Dane Dunning (TEX) @ KCR (ND) - 4.2 IP, 2 ER, 4 Hits, 1 BBs, 4 Ks - 4 Whiffs, 23% CSW, 79 pitches.

You couldn't get one more out?! Seriously, that's a decent line with a Win if he just goes one. More. Out. And at 79 pitches! IT'S NOT FAIR. But seriously, we didn't see the strikeout explosion replicated with a far worse cutter (0/19 CSW?!) and just 7/18 slider strikes. Let's avoid Dunning for a bit with Coors and Cleveland up next.

Brandon Pfaadt (ARI) vs SDP (L) - 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 10 Hits, 0 BBs, 4 Ks - 11 Whiffs, 25% CSW, 89 pitches.

The man was Singled Out for a VVPQS and I want to acknowledge his improved four-seamer command upstairs…though it's still just four-seamer and sweeper. Hey, you just praised Scott for the same approach! His fastball is better with the same sweeper and a "cutter" as a third pitch. FINE.

Ranger Suárez (PHI) vs SFG (W) - 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 7 Hits, 1 BBs, 6 Ks - 8 Whiffs, 31% CSW, 94 pitches.

The weather didn't help Suárez here, but a PQS with a Win is all good in our book. And guess what? THE MARLINS ARE NEXT. Let's keep this train rollin' y'all.

Clarke Schmidt (NYY) vs DET (W) - 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 4 Hits, 0 BBs, 7 Ks - 11 Whiffs, 36% CSW, 91 pitches.

A solo shot and an annoying fourth frame ruined a solid outing from Schmidt, who still hasn't quite figured out how to deal with LHB quite yet. Far too many wild misses armside with an inability to get his cutter middle-in. The good news? Rays are next and Schmidt still came through here. I just want you to be perfect…

Lance Lynn (STL) vs CHW (ND) - 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 4 Hits, 3 BBs, 4 Ks - 10 Whiffs, 26% CSW, 94 pitches.

So. Are y'all done wanting to trust Lynn in any situation? Yes? Great, thanks.

Tobias Myers (MIL) @ CHC (L) - 3.0 IP, 4 ER, 3 Hits, 4 BBs, 2 Ks - 3 Whiffs, 21% CSW, 62 pitches.

Bleeeeggggghhhh. This start had far worse command than the first two and it's all kinds of annoying. FINE. I guess we hold off on Myers for now and wait until he shows up in a big way. It's in there.

Casey Mize (DET) @ NYY (L) - 5.1 IP, 5 ER, 9 Hits, 1 BBs, 6 Ks - 15 Whiffs, 30% CSW, 93 pitches.

The line looks works than the skills, which I'm sure you're tired of reading inside these roundups. It's true though! 17 inches of iVB with great locations on the heater, a much more consistent splitter for 6/20 whiffs and located right at the bottom of the zone, and a slider that is so close to being legit, mostly located down-and-gloveside. 15 Whiffs and 30% CSW are no joke. I'm here for the longterm, but I understand if you want to move on from Mize for a streaming option this week with the Astros in town.

Framber Valdez (HOU) vs SEA (L) - 5.1 IP, 5 ER, 9 Hits, 1 BBs, 3 Ks - 9 Whiffs, 30% CSW, 91 pitches.

Oh cool, the new slider from last week was thrown just five times. Cool, cool, co—WHY. Because he couldn't command them. Oh. I think that's worse. Sigh. Once again, I feel like I have to refer to this.

Erick Fedde (CHW) @ STL (ND) - 4.1 IP, 5 ER, 4 Hits, 5 BBs, 2 Ks - 7 Whiffs, 26% CSW, 91 pitches.

Womp womp. His splitter was atrocious at just 10/29 strikes (that's about 35%. Yikes), and most of his other offerings landed well over the plate. I feel like this is an exception of an outing instead of the new rule but please don't turn into a Cherry Bomb. We don't need another one of those.

Keaton Winn (SFG) @ PHI (L) - 0.2 IP, 5 ER, 4 Hits, 2 BBs, 0 Ks - 3 Whiffs, 15% CSW, 39 pitches.

He's looking more like Keaton LYNN with this loss, if you know what I mean. That is a larger stretch than Glasnow's extension. Fair. Winn's splitter was pummeled in play and returned too few strikes to help him wrangle out of the first, though the weather certainly did its part to mess with Winn's command. With Coors + the Dodgers next, though, I'd rather just move on from Winn and chase streamers instead.

Reid Detmers (LAA) @ CLE (L) - 5.2 IP, 7 ER, 5 Hits, 4 BBs, 7 Ks - 16 Whiffs, 27% CSW, 95 pitches.

Yikes. His slider command was actually pretty dang good down-and-gloveside, but its 10/28 whiffs (!) were the only thing working for him. The hook was either taken for a ball or sent in play, while the heater was more hittable than usual and struggled to find strikes. Why does it feel like he hasn't had great command for a bit now. BECAUSE HE HASN'T. And it's sad, I really wish Detmers was able to take his improved heater and merge it with premium locations across his arsenal. We're sure to see it many times this year, but consider Detmers a Cherry Bomb for now, with extended hot/cold sessions instead of a pure coin-flip each night.

Michael Wacha (KCR) vs TEX (L) - 3.2 IP, 7 ER, 9 Hits, 1 BBs, 3 Ks - 8 Whiffs, 25% CSW, 77 pitches.

Ho' boy, Wacha is having a rough time for Kansas City. I still believe he'll get it sorted out in time and I wouldn't even call this game the worst command he's had, but there were many major misses + too many hittable offerings that the Rangers exploited. It's possible the Angels + Mariners are the perfect palette cleaners he needs to get back on track, though I'd prefer to watch him do it first.

Bryce Elder (ATL) @ LAD (L) - 3.1 IP, 7 ER, 7 Hits, 4 BBs, 4 Ks - 9 Whiffs, 31% CSW, 71 pitches.

Uhhhh, yup. The Mets are a lot easier next time out and there is a decent Win chance there. Guys like Elder are not meant to be started against the Dodgers. You can just ignore the stats from these games.

Trevor Rogers (MIA) @ OAK (L) - 2.1 IP, 8 ER, 8 Hits, 3 BBs, 1 Ks - 3 Whiffs, 18% CSW, 78 pitches.

OKAY OKAY. No more Rogers. Yeeeeeeesh. It doesn't quite add up to me why he's performing so poorly (I mean, the mistakes in the zone are obvious n all), but yeah. No more Mr. Nice Guy Rogers.
