Jerry Seinfeld's Pop-Tarts movie, a comedic story set in Battle Creek, debuts trailer

Forget the '60s space race between the United States and Russia. The only contest that matters in "Unfrosted" is the one between Kellogg's and Post in 1963 Battle Creek, Michigan, for breakfast pastry domination.

Welcome to the trailer for Jerry Seinfeld's upcoming Netflix movie. The tongue-in-cheek origin story is directed and co-written by Seinfeld, whose love of cereal is familiar to fans from his stand-up act and classic NBC sitcom "Seinfeld."

The trailer, which arrived Thursday, opens with a rocket countdown — "Ground control, we are a go for launch," says an off-screen voice — only it's something emerging from a toaster instead of an Apollo spacecraft.

As Kellogg's employees played by Seinfeld and Melissa McCarthy rush to create what will become Pop-Tarts, a Post executive played by Amy Schumer is seen talking about crushing the giant red K on the Kellogg's building visible from her office window.

There are also glimpses of Bill Burr as President John F. Kennedy meeting with Seinfeld and McCarthy in the Oval Office, Hugh Grant in a Tony the Tiger costume and a discussion of potential names for the new breakfast pastry that include Oblong Nibblers.

The comedy's star-studded cast also includes Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Fred Armisen, Jim Gaffigan and seemingly half of the other funny people in show business.

Netflix's "Unfrosted" will be released May 3.
