How do national pundits grade the selections of former Hawkeyes in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Iowa had three former players get selected on day three of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Hawkeyes had four players get drafted in the draft over the course of three days. Cooper DeJean went in the second round, with Erick All and Tory Taylor landing in the fourth round, and Logan Lee going in the sixth round.

How do national media outlets who cover the NFL Draft grade each of these picks?

DB Cooper DeJean - 2nd round, 40th overall pick - Philadelphia Eagles

CBS Sports: A

"Howie Roseman strikes again. DeJean is a fine tackler, dynamic athlete who can align anywhere and provides plus return ability. Fills a need in this secondary that needs reworking."

USA Today: A

"Look at Howie Roseman! After on Thursday ending the Eagles' first-round cornerback drought that dated back to 2002, he then moves up to nab another defensive back in DeJean. The hyperversatile playmaker can take on an array of coverage assignments and thrive at either safety or cornerback. He was the top player on our board - and many others' - so the value is unquestionable."

Sporting News: A+

"The Eagles should be celebrating trading up with a division foe as also land DeJean to upgrade their secondary after staying put and landing speedy corner Quinyon Mitchell in the first round. DeJean is a unique versatile playmaker who will be maximize in the back of Vic Fangio's scheme."

Bleacher Report: A-

"The Philadelphia Eagles continue to find exceptional value to rebuild an aging secondary. First, Quinyon Mitchell fell into their proverbial lap at No. 22 overall. General manager Howie Roseman saw another top talent sliding further than expected and traded up to acquire DeJean. Initially, DeJean can provide depth at multiple spots. Ultimately, he and Mitchell can form a highly athletic cornerback duo to outright replace Darius Slay and James Bradberry IV. This selection isn't quite a home run since the Eagles had to give up their other second-round draft pick and a fifth-rounder for this pick and No. 78. However, it's worth noting that DeJean landed 27th overall on the B/R Scouting Department's final big board."

Walter Football: A+

"The Eagles have multiple second-round picks, so it makes sense that they would trade up, especially for a talented defensive back like Cooper DeJean. The Iowa product is very versatile and possesses high upside with his great athleticism. He should have been chosen in the first round, so I love this pick. I also am a big fan of the Eagles being aggressive with their Super Bowl window being wide open."

Pro Football Focus: 'Elite'

The Eagles add two top-10 players on the PFF big board in the first two rounds of this draft, both at the cornerback position. DeJean projects as a movable piece in Vic Fangio's defense who could theoretically end up outside, in the slot or at safety. He's been extremely productive in the Iowa secondary, allowing just a 45.0 passer rating into his coverage over the past two seasons.

TE Erick All - 4th round, 115th overall pick to Cincinnati Bengals

CBS: B

"Experienced three-down TE with receiving confidence and production. Has the athleticism to get open on occasion in the NFL and has a flair for the spectacular grab in traffic. Route-running intricacies are a part of what he brings to the field and is a solid albeit unspectacular blocker. Doesn't have serious seam-stretching speed."

Bleacher Report: C

Iowa tight end Erick All is packed with potential. He has the skill set and athletic profile to be a dominant presence in a passing game. But he's dealt with significant injuries during each of the last two seasons. He's a lottery ticket who could hit big for the Cincinnati Bengals, who have Mike Gesicki signed on a one-year deal.

NFL.com: No Grades

"A shaky medical history dampened his draft outlook a bit, as did playing last season in a dormant Iowa passing game. If All can stay healthy, he has enough athletic traits and blocking prowess to emerge as a quality TE2."

USA Today: C+

Based on numbers and tape alone, All is a solid tight end in a top-heavy class. He's a better blocker than most prospects and led the Hawkeyes in receiving in 2023. But he suffered season-ending injuries in 2023 and 2022 and only played 10 total games in that span. If he stays healthy, he's a solid No. 2 tight end for the Bengals.

Cincinnati's first pick on Day 3 is another position of need. The Bengals addressed tight end in free agency with a mix of an external addition (Mike Gesicki) and re-signing players who were previously on the roster (Drew Sample). All played for two programs that were run-heavy college schemes (Michigan, Iowa). The big question is about the ACL injury he suffered in 2023 in his senior year at Iowa. However, the Bengals feel good about his recovery as he enters the pros.

Pro Football Focus: 'Good'

The Bengals find a potential long-term starter in the fourth round, with All ranking as the third-best tight end on the PFF big board. His 2.62 yards per route in 2023 ranked second among draft-eligible tight ends.

P Tory Taylor - 4th round, 122nd pick to Chicago Bears

CBS: C-

"Far and away the best punter in this class. Huge leg he showcased over multiple seasons and plenty of experience. Inside the 20 he's money too. But is this the best allocation of one of Chicago's four picks in this draft? No. "

Bleacher Report: C

The Chicago Bears are bringing in the punt god with the selection of Iowa's Tory Taylor. Last season, Bears punter Trenton Gill finished 26th and 27th, respectively, in average yards per punt and punts placed inside the 20-yard line.

Taylor is a wizard with his ball placement. He may have gone higher than the fourth round if he weren't set to turn 27 prior to the 2024 campaign.

NFL.com: No Grades

The Aussie rugby-style punter helped Iowa win a lot of games with his directional kicking and penchant for burying opponents deep. He's also effective in poor weather, which makes sense for a team like Chicago, but with so few picks this year, was this the best value for the Bears?

USA Today: D

True, Taylor was one of the best punters in the nation in 2023 at Iowa. He did notch a 67-yard punt for the Hawkeyes in their bowl game. But with just four total picks in this year's draft, this seems like a waste of a resource for the Bears with players who could fill more needs still on the board.

ESPN: No Grades

"Taylor was effectively Iowa's offense last season when he totaled an FBS record 4,479 punting yards and a 48.2-yard average. The Bears used their fourth and final draft pick on the best punter in college football (he won the Ray Guy Award in 2023) and are clearly thinking that Taylor will replace Trenton Gill, who finished last in net average last year (38 yards) by using a pick this high on a specialist. The Australian-born punter didn't have much contact with the Bears during the pre-draft process, but hit it off with special teams coordinator Richard Hightower at the combine and is eager to bring his 46.3-yard career punt average -- an all-time FBS record -- to Soldier Field and kick in the inclement weather conditions he grew accustomed to in college."

Pro Football Focus: Average

"The Bears round out their draft with a key producer on special teams by grabbing a quality punter. Taylor earned a great 81.4 PFF punt grade after producing 35 punts inside the 20-yard and punting up to 67 yards."

DL Logan Lee - 6th round, 178th pick to Pittsburgh Steelers

(Photo: USA TODAY Sports)

CBS: B-

"Vintage Steelers pick here. High-caliber athlete who can win at any alignment up front although his productivity in college didn't match how good of an athlete he is. Could stand to add some weight at next level. Has to get stronger but can win with slippery rushes between gaps."

Bleacher Report: C

"The Pittsbugh Steelers know exactly what they want in a defensive lineman, and Iowa's Logan Lee fits the bill. He's a 6'5", 281-pound lineman who may be undersized for certain teams. He can line up at 5-technique or 4i in the Steelers' odd front. He'll provide depth and battle during the reps he's on the field for."

NFL.com: No grades

"Lee is a gifted athlete with a workmanlike, drama-free attitude. But what's his best position? Lee might be best used as a 5-technique where he can occupy tackles and open up playmaking opportunities for others as long as his so-so arm length doesn't hinder him."

USA TODAY: C

"Lee's a long, explosive athlete at the position but lacks the ideal weight and strength to stay on the inside. He's not quite a interior defender but doesn't possess the burst and power to thrive on the edge. He is a hard worker and could grow into a niche role alongside standouts in Pittsburgh."

ESPN: No Grade

"Lee is the Steelers' first pick on the defensive line this year. Though he was versatile in college, he projects as a defensive end in the Steelers system, giving the team depth behind CameronHeyward and Larry Ogunjobi. Lee also took an official visit to the Steelers during the pre-draft process, further underscoring the significance of those visits. So far, five of the six Steelers 2024 draft picks took official visits to Pittsburgh."

Pro Football Focus: 'Average'

"Pittsburgh adds Lee to an interior group that ranked 11th against the run last season. He ranked fifth among Big Ten defensive tackles in run defense (80.4) and fourth in QB pressures (28)."
