2025 NFL Draft's top 10 quarterback prospects: Early look features Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe in front

Potential early-round picks in next year's cycle at the most spotlighted position.

A record-tying six quarterbacks were taken in the first round of Thursday's NFL Draft, a result of evaluation gurus and front office decision-makers knowing there's a bit more mystery at the position in the upcoming 2025 cycle. Colorado's Shedeur Sanders will have a chance to be the first quarterback off the board, but Deion Sanders warned earlier this spring his son will somewhat dictate where he plays based on fit.

Whether that opens the door for another signal-caller to move into top billing remains to be seen, but with more power to the players, this could make for an interesting storyline next spring. Quinn Ewers at Texas, Georgia's Carson Beck and Alabama's Jalen Milroe are other preseason Heisman candidates who look to be headliners at the position.

There's no such thing as a sure-fire home run at a position as scrutinized and difficult to play at the highest level like quarterback. Early-rounders bust more often than not and identifying franchise players under center is not easy for NFL franchises.

Here's a look at 10 players being mentioned in early 2025 NFL Draft discussions as prospects next spring:

1. Shedeur Sanders, Colorado

247Sports early prediction: 6th overall to New York Giants

Shedeur Sanders can shine at the highest level, that much was proven in Year 1 at Colorado after his 27-touchdown season. Few quarterbacks throw a better deep ball and given his escapability from the pocket, he's a player who buys time better than most. And think about this: We've never seen what Sanders can do with time behind a competent offensive line that isn't riddled with talent disadvantages. He was sacked more often than any power conference quarterback last season, leading to a missed start due to injury. Sanders feels like a low-risk, high-reward prospect as the potential face of a franchise in the NFL.

2. Jalen Milroe, Alabama

247Sports early prediction: 7th overall to New Orleans Saints

Will Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer be able to unlock Jalen Milroe similar to the progress that was made with Michael Penix Jr. at Washington? That's the expectation here if he's selected ahead of two pocket passers and fellow Heisman candidates at Texas and Georgia, respectively. Milroe does more with his legs than any potential first-round quarterback hopeful in 2025, but it's that athleticism that was often difficult for Alabama's staff to bottle up last season. This spring, Milroe worked on going through progressions and maintaining pocket presence before taking off as a final option. He has a muscular frame and will be able to absorb hits at the next level as a chain-mover with his feet.

3. Quinn Ewers, Texas

247Sports early prediction: 9th overall to Seattle Seahawks

Last season was a turning point for Quinn Ewers in his career after throwing for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns. His 452-yard, four-touchdown effort in the Big 12 Championship Game was a career best and holding off five-star redshirt freshman Eli Manning for QB1 is notable. There's a number of signal-callers who could seize top billing with a banner year this fall and Ewers is one of those candidates. He's the star of a forward-facing program in the College Football Playoff hunt and there's plenty of weapons around him.

4. Carson Beck, Georgia

247Sports early prediction: 11th overall to Las Vegas Raiders

Carson Beck, who announced his return for another year at Georgia before the Bulldogs' 60-point Orange Bowl win over Florida State, recorded the second-most passing yards (3,941) during a single season in program history in 2023 and his completion rate of 72.4% was one of the nation's best. Beck started with 11-straight games eclipsing 250 yards passing, the same number Stetson Bennett had in 15 games during the 2022 season. In the SEC Championship Game loss to Alabama, Beck completed 21 passes on 29 attempts for 243 yards with a rushing touchdown. He's not Matthew Stafford with other-worldly arm talent, but Beck's a first-rounder unless things go south in a few months.

5. Cam Ward, Miami

247Sports early prediction: Day 2 or later

Cam Ward was heading to the NFL Draft this year, before Miami's NIL arm convinced him otherwise for one more season of college ball in the ACC. With more than 3,100 career snaps across four years at FCS Immaculate Word and Washington State, Ward will be one of the most experienced options in next year's cycle, which means a great deal to NFL teams. Over that stretch of games, Ward has thrown for 13,822 yards and 119 touchdowns. His toughest assignment comes in the ACC as the leader of the Hurricanes.

6. Drew Allar, Penn State

247Sports early prediction: Day 2 or later

Former five-star Drew Allar packs a ton of promise into his ideal 6-foot-5, 245-pound frame, ala Ben Roethlisberger, but explosive plays at Penn State were kept to a minimum in the passing game last season and his top wideout, Keandre Lambert-Smith, is in the transfer portal. Should NFL teams go the ceiling route here and think upside, Allar's going to be a first-rounder. If he backtracks as a junior and his completion rate continues to hover around 60%, there will be some questions that need to be answered on accuracy.

7. Conner Weigman, Texas A&M

247Sports early prediction: Day 2 or later

He's two inches shorter than former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, but brings a similar style of play in terms of arm talent. Conner Weigman can sling it and Mike Elko should be excited this summer about the possibilities for this Texas A&M offense under his direction. Weigman was heading toward a terrific campaign in 2023 before an injury shortened his season. Much like Spencer Rattler had to deal with during his college career in the SEC, Weigman will be working with his third offensive coordinator in three seasons. The Aggies are hoping that transition is smooth with Collin Klein calling the shots.

8. Graham Mertz, Florida

247Sports early prediction: Day 2 or later

This former Wisconsin transfer held off five-star freshman DJ Lagway this spring to retain his starting job with the Gators and is coming off his best season as a collegian with 20 touchdown passes, only three interceptions and a completion rate near 73%. In the SEC, that level of play jumps off the page despite Florida's lack of team success. If he takes the next step in his development this fall, the athletic 6-foot-3, 225-pound passer may enter the first-round conversation if he shows out amongst his peers.

9. Noah Fifita, Arizona

247Sports early prediction: Day 2 or later

Will the encore performance for Noah Fifita with a first-year head coach at Arizona during the Wildcats' first season in Big 12 look as impressive as his 2023 numbers? Fifita packs a noticeable skill set into his 5-foot-11 frame, but size matters at the next level and that will be a downgrade he'll try and overcome during the pre-draft circuit. The key for Fifita will be familiarizing himself with Brent Brennan and quickly growing comfortable in the Wildcats' new scheme.

10. Dillon Gabriel, Oregon

247Sports early prediction: Day 2 or later

System quarterback who was scheme-terrific in college or legitimate pro traits? That's the major question with Dillon Gabriel, Oregon's starter this season after transferring over from Oklahoma. He's one of the most productive passers nationally with more starts than any other quarterback entering the 2024 campaign. And based on Bo Nix's numbers the last two seasons in Will Stein's offense, Gabriel should be a stat-filler as well. At 5-foot-11, his height will come into question.
