The Buffalo Bills traded one of their four selections in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, sending pick No. 144 to the Chicago Bears. In return, the Bears gave the Bills a fourth-round choice in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The choice Buffalo sent to Chicago was originally acquired by the Bills in a trade made with those very same Bears earlier this offseason. Buffalo traded offensive lineman Ryan Bates to Chicago to acquire the pick. In this deal, the Bills merely sent that very same pick back to the Windy City in exchange for a future draft choice.

Unless the Bills and Bears make a deal next year, the official terms of the Bates-to-the-Bears trade now stands as a 2025 fourth round choice to the Bills in exchange for the versatile veteran offensive lineman.

With the 144th pick in the draft, the Bears selected Kansas defensive end Austin Booker. The Bills still have two more choices in the fifth round—one at No. 160 and another at No. 163. Buffalo has already made one selection in the fifth round, taking Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger at No. 141 overall.
