Grading the Chiefs' pick of Jared Wiley at No. 131

The Kansas City Chiefs have made their third selection of the 2024 Draft!

The Chiefs took TCU tight end Jared Wiley with the 131st overall pick in the first round. We have insta-grades from the three members of the Arrowhead Pride Draft Team.

Ron: I expected the Chiefs to give the offense another playmaker soon in this draft. I expected it to be at running back, but the hyper-athletic, super-sized tight end selection is much more valuable. This is a rare combination of size and speed Kansas City is bringing into the offense.

He has the frame to be a plus blocker but can also split out and make the Chiefs' 12 or 13 personnel packages dangerous when running crossers and vertical route concepts. He is a solid complement to Travis Kelce and Noah Gray.

I think I still would have rather addressed the interior offensive line with Boston College guard Christian Mahogany or strengthened the defensive trenches. This is more of a luxury, best-player-available pick.

Grade: B+

Caleb: The Chiefs go BIG with their pick at 133, and not only does Wiley have tremendous size for the position, he is a high-level athlete. The big man was a red-zone menace for TCU, where he used his size and frame to bully smaller defenders. Wiley is a solid pass-catching option, but he also can be an in-line blocker and looks to be the Chiefs' direct replacement for Blake Bell.

Wiley will have a chance to learn from one of the best in football with Travis Kelce, and the Chiefs will continue to have one of the best tight-end rooms in the league. There were other positions the Chiefs could have addressed here, but Wiley was a solid pick.

Grade: B

Rocky: The Chiefs draft a big and athletic former quarterback turned tight end— does that story sound familiar? It should. It's unfair to compare Wiley to the greatest tight end of all time in Travis Kelce, but the fact that they are almost the exact same height and weight and look very similar running routes, it's hard not to make the comparison — I'm sure that's part of what drew the KC scouting department to him. On day three, you get the tight end who arguably has the most upside as a receiver, who is not named Brock Bowers.

Wiley is an excellent athlete at his size and is certainly a front-runner to be this year's number-one camp crush.

Grade: A
