If you're a fan of the XPS 14's design, the only thing that may give potential consumers pause is its premium price. The 16GB, GeForce RTX 4050, 1980x1200 display configuration we tested comes in at $2,099, which is significantly higher than some similarly-configured, more-mainstream competing systems. If you don't need the discrete GPU, however, the XPS 14 can scaled back to around $1,699.

The XPS 14 and 16 are both beautiful, well-designed machines. They're plenty capable for most use cases, though heavy gamers and video editors will want to look elsewhere. They're expensive for what you get, but if you don't mind paying a premium for first-class build quality with very clean, eye-catching design, then the XPS 14 and 16 are solid laptops.

The Dell XPS 14 is a looker, but even though it can offer respectable performance, it comes at such a high cost above competent — and often faster — competitors that there's little reason to consider it.

Dell's XPS 14 is a beautiful and powerful MacBook Pro competitor, though you'll pay for its modern design with usability quirks and a higher overall price.

The new Dell XPS 14 is a boost for the range, with a hybrid approach that stands out from the crowd. There's plenty of processing power with enough graphics chops to be a decent option for entry-level PC gaming. The stylish design is intriguing but may not be for everyone while an underwhelming battery life undermines the total package.

The 2024 model of the XPS 14 (codename 9440) tries to be the porridge in the middle: more powerful than the XPS 13, but smaller than the XPS 16. It works, especially with the gorgeous OLED screen option. But the screen is let down somewhat by a single lacklustre GPU option. It's a compromise, and most users may be better off making a choice between small or powerful.

Dell's XPS 14 is one of today's classiest compact laptops, bolstered by an optional Nvidia GeForce GPU, lengthy battery staying power, and a sharp webcam—but it's neither the lightest nor most affordable in its class.

The Dell XPS 14 offers excellent performance and graphics packed into a sci-fi design you'll fall in love with for roughly 10 hours per charge, but I'm still upset about its dull display.

Dell's new XPS 16 and XPS 14 offer great performance and features but carry lofty price tags.

The XPS 14 9440's minimalistic look and solid build will certainly appeal to design-centric creative types, who will also make good use of the strong overall performance of the Core Ultra processor and RTX 4050 graphics.
