Mets fan removed from $1 hot dog night after fans throw wieners at him in wild scene

One indulging Mets fan was removed from his field-level seat during Tuesday's $1 hot dog night seemingly because fans started throwing hot dogs his way.

"😂😂 so this guy was just all about the $1 dog night. Totally embraced it," fan account @The7Line posted to X on Wednesday morning. "The story goes… in the 9th inning everyone started throwing their extra dogs at him. Cops had to toss him so everyone else would stop. He wasn't thrown out for having a good time and apparently left without incident."

One fan posted a photo of the fan in question on the train after the game with a hot dog hat and his shirt that said in blue writing "Bad day to be a Glizzy", meaning bad day to be a hot dog, with a running tab of hot dogs consumed and beers drank, with Beers seemingly holding a 10-9 edge.

The bottom of the shirt read LGM.

"Rode with this legend back to the city, got the whole story. Him and his girlfriend came from westchester to have a good time," X user @bbcush posted after the Mets' 4-2 win over the Cubs. "Welder, blue collar guy, just wants to drink beers and eat glizzys."

There are always going to be some sort of shenanigans when teams have specialty nights and that's what the Mets invited with Tuesday's offering of $1 hot dogs.

The Mets' promo said fans were limited to four per transaction.

This fan clearly ended up with more than four since at some point in the night fans started hurling hot dogs toward the man, who sat field level on the first base side.

Said fan stood up and waved on the fans, seemingly encouraging them to keep throwing him more hot dogs, before putting a hot dog hat back on his head and downing another.

But all good things must come to an end.

A fan posted a video at 9:41 p.m. ET showing a police officer and Citi Field security officers walking down to the fan and then escorting him from his seat.

Fans started chanting "Let him eat" and "booed" his removal, while he slapped hands with some fans and waving his hands to encourage them.

Combined with the Mets' win, it seems the fans certainly enjoyed the promotional night.

"You can't sell hot dogs for $1, have [Steve] Gelbs dressed up in a hot dog costume, plaster Seymour Weiner in a fun way all across the branding, and put up a live counter on the scoreboard showing hot dog sales… and not expect at least a few fans to go a little overboard," The 7 Line's account posted in a follow-up Monday. "😂 Looked like a great success. Hopefully an annual thing."

The Phillies put an end to their $1 hot dog night this year after scores of fans threw hot dogs at each other during last year's promotion, replacing it with a buy-one, get-one-free hot dog night.
