Hours after several media reports suggested that Goldy Brar, the prime suspect in the murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has been shot dead in California, the US Police on Wednesday rubbished the reports saying "this is absolutely not true".

Several media outlets, citing American news channels, had reported that Brar was attacked by unknown assailants around 5:25 pm on Tuesday in Fairmont and Holt Avenue in Fresno when he was standing outside a house with a friend. Social media too was abuzz with reports of the gangsters death.

Brar and his friend were rushed to the hospital, where Brar succumbed to injuries, the reports had suggested.

However, the reports also mentioned that official confirmation was awaited.

As per the NDTV report, two individuals were allegedly shot in Fairmont and Holt Avenue in Fresno, following an altercation. One of the victims succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, and various speculations arose on social media suggesting that the deceased might be the Canada-based gangster Brar.

According to some local reports, the man killed in the incident has now been identified as 37-year-old Xavier Galdney.

The Fresno Police has now responded to Brar's murder reports, saying that they are "untrue".

"If you are inquiring because of the online chatter claiming that the shooting victim is 'Goldy Brar', we can confirm that this is absolutely not true," an NDTV report Lieutenant William J. Dooley quoted as saying in response to a query on the incident.

Blowing off the reports as "misinformation," the lieutenant said that the police department is receiving inquiries from around the world.

"We have received inquiries from around the world this morning as a result of misinformation being spread on social media and online news agencies. We are not sure who started this rumour, but it caught on and spread like wildfire. But again, it isn't true. The victim is definitely not Goldy," he was quoted as saying.

Goldy Brar is a wanted criminal designated as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against him, and there is an existing non-bailable warrant for his arrest.

Suspected to be a prominent figure within the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Brar gained notoriety after claiming responsibility for the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in a Facebook post. Sidhu Moose Wala was fatally shot in his car near his village in Punjab's Mansa district on 29 May , 2022.
