Driver killed in head-on Hwy 417 crash was travelling eastbound in westbound lane, OPP confirms

Ontario Provincial Police confirmed Thursday that a vehicle had been traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 417 at about 3:30 a.m. when it collided head-on with a westbound vehicle.

"The driver of the eastbound vehicle has died as a result of the collision," the OPP said in a release.

Two other people were extricated from their vehicle by Ottawa firefighters and were transported to hospital.

Ottawa Paramedic Services said the man and woman in the second vehicle had serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

OPP said the investigation by the Ottawa detachment was ongoing, with assistance from a collision reconstructionist and members of the technical collision investigation team."

The Westbound 417 between Exit 112 (Innes Rd/County Rd 30) and Exit 115 (St-Laurent Blvd/County Rd 26) was reopened at about 12:30 p.m.
