Police in Waterloo region have arrested and charged a 52 year-old Woolwich man in a sexual assault investigation in Waterloo.

Police said they received a report of a sexual assault that took place between 2008 and 2009 in March. Police arrested the man on April 10 and he was charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

They identified the man as 52-year-old Steven Lehmann.

Lehmann is known in the local music scene as a producer, arranger and musical director.

His website says he founded Renaissance School of the Arts in Waterloo and he has worked with K-W Glee, a youth choir based out of Waterloo.

In a statement emailed to CBC News, K-W Glee said the group was "shocked to find out about the allegations" and Lehmann has been placed on "an immediate leave of absence pending the outcome of the matter that is before the courts."

"We have been advised that the organization is not implicated in the allegations as they are alleged to have taken place between 2008 and 2009 before K-W Glee existed," the group said.

The investigation is ongoing by the service's Special Victims Unit and they encourage anyone with information or other victims to come forward.

Lehmann is scheduled to next appear in court on April 30.
