Young & Restless Preview: The Horrifying Nikki/Jack Shocker You Won't Want to Miss — 'A Lot Was Asked Of Us!'

They say that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, and that's a path that Young & Restless' Jack is about to go traipsing down. There's a disaster in the making, and we all saw it coming way back when Jack first agreed to help his longtime friend — and former wife — Nikki deal with her alcohol problem. At the time, we sort of assumed it would wind up making Diane jealous, potentially bring out of retirement her more wicked side. What we never imagined was… well, what's about to unfold.

While we're sworn to secrecy as to exactly how things will play out in the episode airing on Thursday, May 2, we can say that it is a standalone episode featuring Nikki and Jack. In fact, it's a history-making episode, as this will be the first time an entire hour focused on two and only two characters.

Everything they've been through over the years — together and separately — has been laying the groundwork for what unfolds during this incredible hour. (Not for nothing, but we'll be surprised if both Melody Thomas Scott and Peter Bergman don't submit this singularly-gripping episode for consideration when next year's Daytime Emmys roll around.)

"It is pretty special," Peter Bergman told TVInsider of the episode. "A lot was asked of us, and hopefully it comes through. It's a really solid idea, and the idea behind it is, 'How far are you willing to go to help someone?' And Jack's more determined than we knew!"

In recent weeks, Nikki has tried to keep her drinking under the radar, telling herself that once the Jordan mess is resolved she'll get sober again. For her part, Scott has been loving the storyline. "I love that they brought back Nikki's drinking," she told us during a recent chat (which you can — and should! — watch in its entirety below). "It's always so much fun to play drunk, and it's always been a fan-favorite [storyline]. But this time it's not Nikki's fault, and that changes everything. She was force-fed this [vodka via] IV, and I hope it never ends!"

While it's unclear exactly where this saga will go next, we can tell you this: Nikki is about to hit rock bottom. Will she wind up dragging Jack along for the ride? By week's end, Victor will be dishing out a whole lot of tough love where his wife is concerned. Jack, however, will find himself having to deal with the consequences of his actions…
