Michael Castiglione, 36, of Hamilton, is now charged in the April 4 death of Jason Gallant, 50, whose body was discovered at Pier 4 Park on April 2.

In a release Friday, cops said they were not seeking additional suspects and believe the incident was isolated, as the deceased and the accused were known to each other.

However, police remain tight-lipped on how Gallant died and a possible motive.

His murder was Hamilton's third of 2024.

Meanwhile, on April 4 around 2:30 p.m., officers received reports that possible human remains were found between piers 16 and 17, an industrial sector near Burlington St. E.

Ontario's chief coroner and forensic pathology service attended the scene and confirmed the remains were human.

"No further information will be released at this time and an update will be provided once one is available," Hamilton Police said in a news release.

That investigation is also being treated as a homicide.

Previously, the most recent murder was the brazen daylight shooting of Alexander Circiumaru, 18, on March 6. Police have said the young man's murder was "targeted."

Investigators recovered the black Honda Civic used by the triggerman from the city's east end. Detectives are now looking at the Civic's movements around the city before and after the brazen murder.

Circiumaru had been walking on the sidewalk for an appointment in the city's core. He did not know that his killer was lying in wait.
