Roster Move: Rodríguez To IL, Zach Pop Recalled

Yariel Rodríguez is going on the 15-day IL with Thoracic Spine Inflammation (sore back). Zach Pop is called up for tonight's game. The next time we go through the rotation, we might see Alek Manoah.

Rodríguez started to feel sore in his last inning of work yesterday.

Manoah starts tonight for the Bisons, but the Jays have some off days ahead. They could do without a fifth starter for a bit—it is possible they could do two weeks without one. But then they often use off days to occasionally give the starters an extra day of rest. They could get through without a fifth starter if Rodriguez is only out for 15 days. But when has a pitcher ever been out for the minimum number of IL days?

Manoah has had four starts with the Bisons, but they haven't gone well. He has an 11.85 ERA in 13.2 innings. He's allowed 26 hits, 4 home runs, 9 walks and 16 strikeouts. The team says they like where his 'stuff is' but want to get him back over the plate.

Tonight's start will be an important one if he is hoping to get back to Toronto. Paolo Espino is also a possibility for the open spot.

Pop has made 9 relief appearances with a 1.86 ERA. In 8.2 innings, he's allowed 8 hits, 5 walls with 11 strikeouts. He has 3 saves. Welcome back, Zach.

Rob Manfred toured the new and improved Rogers Centre today. He may offer the Blue Jays the All-Star game in the future.

Tonight's lineups. George Springer plays center for the first time since 2022.
