Flames' Kylington among finalists for Bill Masterton Trophy

Calgary Flames defenceman Oliver Kylington is among the finalists for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, the NHL announced Thursday.

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen and Arizona Coyotes goaltender Connor Ingram were also named finalists for the award.

Kylington, 26, missed the entire 2022-23 and the first half of 2023-24 due to mental health issues. He returned to the Flames lineup on Jan. 25 and played the remaining 33 games of the season, registering eight points (three goals, five assists) in 17:14 of average ice time.

Andersen, 34, was sidelined for the first four months of the season with blood clotting issues. He returned to game action for the Hurricanes on March 7 and enjoyed .932 save percentage and 1.84 goals-against average in 16 games.

Ingram, 27, found his place with the Coyotes in 2022 after he was claimed off waivers, posting a .907 save percentage each of his two full seasons with the team. In early 2024, he revealed that he has obsessive-compulsive disorder, which lead him to suffer from alcoholism. He entered the NHL-NHLPA's player assistance program in 2021.

The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded to the player who best represents leadership, perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Previous winners include Kris Letang, Carey Price and Oskar Lindblom.
