National Weather Service details tornado outbreak in Nebraska, Iowa

7:00. BILL QUANECIA ALL RIGHT, BILL, THANK YOU. THREE NEBRASKA COUNTIES AND ONE IOWA COUNTY ARE UNDER EMERGENCY PROCLAMATIONS RIGHT NOW. OMAHA'S WEATHER LEADER HAS TEAM COVERAGE SPANNING THOSE AREAS. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN IS IN DOUGLAS LANCASTER, POTTAWATOMIE AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES, BUT FIRST, LET'S GET TO THE LATEST STORM REPORTS FROM ROB MCCARTNEY. HE'S ON THE LIVE DESK. QUANECIA BILL, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAYS THESE ARE THE STRONGEST TORNADOES TO HIT THE AREA IN NEARLY TEN YEARS. THE LAST OUTBREAK THIS SEVERE WAS AN EF THREE IN COLERIDGE, NEBRASKA. THAT WAS JUNE 17TH, ONE DAY AFTER THE PILGER TWIN EF FOUR TORNADOES OF 2014. ALL RIGHT, HERE'S THE BREAKDOWN OF FRIDAY, STARTING WITH THE LINCOLN WAVERLE TORNADO IN LANCASTER COUNTY THAT WAS RATED AS AN EF THREE WITH AN ESTIMATED PEAK WIND OF 158MPH, THREE INJURIES WERE REPORTED THERE. THE TWISTER THAT HIT DOUGLAS COUNTY AND EF THREE ON THE GROUND FOR 31 MILES, PEAK WINDS OF 165 MILES AN HOUR, TOUCHING DOWN IN ELKHORN, BENNINGTON AND BLAIR, A MAXIMUM WIDTH 1600 YARDS. NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOESN'T HAVE ANY INJURIES TO REPORT WITH THAT ONE. AND NOW THE TORNADO THAT TOUCHED DOWN AT EPPLEY AIRFIELD. IT'S BEEN UPGRADED TO AN EF THREE. IT'S ESTIMATED PEAK WINDS OF 152 MILES. AN HOUR. IT HAD A PATH LENGTH OF 16 MILES. ALSO TRACKING THROUGH CARTER LAKE CRESCENT AND INTO THE MISSOURI VALLEY, WHERE IT EVENTUALLY WEAKENED. IN SOUTHERN POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, ANOTHER EF THREE, IT CLOCKED 145 MILE AN HOUR WINDS ON THE GROUND FOR 13 MILES. NO INJURIES THERE. UNFORTUNATELY, IN THE CITY OF MINDEN, SAME COULDN'T BE SAID. THAT WAS AN EF THREE THAT HIT THERE AND IT TURNED DEADLY, KILLING ONE MAN, 63 YEAR OLD NICK RING, INJURED THREE OTHERS. THAT TORNADO HAD A MAXIMUM WIDTH OF 1700 YARDS. IT WAS ON THE GROUND FOR 40 MILES. THIS THESE NUMBERS ARE STAGGERING. THERE WAS ALSO AN EF TWO IN SHELBY COUNTY, AS YOU MENTIONED, TWO F ONES IN CRAWFORD AND MILLS COUNTY. The National Weather Service confirmed multiple tornadoes in Friday's outbreak in Nebraska and Iowa.Officials said these are the strongest tornadoes in eastern Nebraska or western Iowa since June 2014, when an EF3 tornado hit Coleridge — one day after four EF4 tornadoes hit northeast Nebraska.According to the NWS, there were nine tornadoes in the Omaha area, traveling a total track of 162.5 miles and they were on the ground for a total of 4 hours and 51 minutes.WATCH: Meteorologist Caitlin Harvey explains the EF scale for tornadoesThe hardest hit areas all saw EF3 tornadoes, including Elkhorn, Blair, Lincoln, Council Bluffs and Minden.The tornado that hit Lincoln also impacted Waverly, rated as an EF3.
