Toronto police say an elderly man is dead and a younger male has been arrested after a stabbing in Etobicoke on Thursday afternoon.

Det.-Sgt. Phillip Campbell, of the Toronto Police Service's homicide unit, said police were called to a home in the Eglinton and Kipling avenues area for a report of a stabbing at about 2 p.m.

Campbell declined to comment on the nature of the relationship between the victim and suspect, but he said the accused was living at the home.

"Right now, I just want to say that it's family," Campbell told reporters. "It's very early in the investigation."

He said the call to police came from inside the home.

When police arrived, they found the man suffering from injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The younger male was taken into custody without incident and is being investigated. Police have not provided the accused's age.

"We do not believe there is any concern for any more public safety," Campbell added. "Nobody else was injured in this incident."

The homicide unit has taken over the investigation and is urging neighbours who may have information relevant to the investigation to call 22 Division.
