Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider is preaching patience despite the team's offensive inconsistency to start the season.

The Blue Jays fell 6-1 to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday to lose a three-game series. Toronto has scored five runs or fewer a league-leading 28 times this season.

"It's May 1, it will come, we will be better," Schneider said Wednesday, per Alex Seixeiro of CityNews. "I would hope our fans trust the fact that we have really good players and that they understand they're not performing up to their expectations."

The Blue Jays are 25th in the league in runs scored, 21st in home runs, and 22nd in OPS through 32 games.

They've also struggled mightily with runners in scoring position, hitting a league-worst .192 with a paltry .556 OPS.

"We're not anywhere near where we can be," Schneider added, per Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.

He added: "We know we need to be better. We will be better. ... When it does click, I think you're gonna see a complete brand of baseball. Right now, it hasn't worked consistently. But again, it will be better."

The loss dropped the Blue Jays to 15-17, one game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays for last place in the American League East.
