16-Year-Old Kris Kim Becomes Youngest to Make PGA Tour Cut Since 2013 at CJ Cup

Sixteen-year-old amateur golfer Kris Kim became the youngest person to make a PGA Tour cut in 11 years when he qualified for the weekend at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson after shooting seven under through two rounds, per ESPN News Services.

Kim, at 16 years, seven months and three days, is the youngest PGA Tour cut qualifier since 14-year-old Guan Tianlang made the cut at the 2013 Masters.

This wasn't an easy cut to make, with the line at six under or better to move on. Kim's been sensational over two days, though, shooting a three-under 68 on Thursday before carding a four-under 67 on Friday. He's done his best work around the green, finishing seventh in strokes gained in the field in that category through two days.

His greatest stretch occurred on the front nine Friday, when he shot a four-under 36 thanks to five birdies and one bogey. He began the 18th hole needing a par to make the cut but did one better by birdieing the last to make the weekend.

The Englishman is the son of ex-LPGA Tour player and South Korea native Ji-Hyun Suh, who is also his coach. The PGA Tour debutante entered the tournament via a sponsor exemption from CJ Group, the tournament's title sponsor.

Now Kim looks forward to Round 3, which will begin for him at 9:20 a.m. ET on Saturday when he tees off alongside Carson Young from TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.
