Hope vs. reality. I am having a hard time separating those two right now, and I suggest many of you are as well.Up three games to one at home with Game 5 in their sights, there was little question that if the Bruins put forth their best effort and execution with the Toronto team short of top scorer Auston Matthews, they would have finished off the series, and everyone could have exhaled. But no. So, it was time to take another deep breath. Hope your lungs filled with air and get ready for Game 6, this time up in Toronto, a place the Bruins dominated in Games 3 and 4 and seemingly could again. The Leafs had been in disarray. Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery went back to the lineup many of us thought was the right one for Game 5 and they generated so few scoring chances that they were nearly shut out, if not for 0.1 seconds left on the clock.Oof!So now that hope and reality are crashing into each other like two fourth-line wingers from Moose Jaw and Yellowknife, many of you are hyperventilating with anticipation of Game 7 back on home ice. Why? Because we've seen this story before and we did not like the way it went the first time. The Panthers are a better team, I'll stand by that. But last year's Bruins team might be better than this year's Bruins team. And so, for Game 7 on Saturday, you can hold on to hope that there will be a new reality. But realistically, you're hoping for a miracle.Watch SportsCenter 5's pregame special Saturday at 7:30 p.m. before Game 7 between the Bruins and Maple Leafs at 8 p.m. on WCVB Channel 5, streaming online.

BOSTON —

Hope vs. reality.

I am having a hard time separating those two right now, and I suggest many of you are as well.

Up three games to one at home with Game 5 in their sights, there was little question that if the Bruins put forth their best effort and execution with the Toronto team short of top scorer Auston Matthews, they would have finished off the series, and everyone could have exhaled.

But no.

The Leafs had been in disarray.

Oof!

So now that hope and reality are crashing into each other like two fourth-line wingers from Moose Jaw and Yellowknife, many of you are hyperventilating with anticipation of Game 7 back on home ice.

Why? Because we've seen this story before and we did not like the way it went the first time.

The Panthers are a better team, I'll stand by that. But last year's Bruins team might be better than this year's Bruins team.
