Nintendo Switch 2 May Support Higher Than 60 FPS Gameplay, 40 FPS 120Hz Modes

The Nintendo Switch 2 may support higher than 60 frames per second gameplay and even 40 FPS, 120Hz modes, judging from some recent findings.

Well-known Nintendo dataminer OatmealDome took a good look at the latest version of the NintendoWare Bezel Engine which powers the recently released Endless Ocean Luminous, discovering how the engine now features support for frame rates up to 240 FPS. This is definitely an interesting find, considering the Nintendo Switch can only output 60 frames per second.

The latest version of the engine appears to support higher frame rates like 240fps? (The Switch can only output 60 fps.)

This only applies to games that enable the variable frame rate mode.

The fact that the Bezel Engine now supports up to 240 FPS gameplay doesn't mean that future games will automatically support high framerate gameplay, but the engine now supporting high framerates ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2 release is definitely interesting. While it is extremely unlikely the new console from Nintendo will have the horsepower to push 240 FPS gameplay unless at really low resolutions, supporting higher framerates could open the door for the 40 FPS, 120 Hz modes seen in select PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S games. With the Nintendo Switch 2 also said to support NVIDIA DLSS, it wouldn't be too surprising to see some games use the upscaler to push past 60 frames per second gameplay in docked mode.

With Nintendo keeping a tight lid on the Nintendo Switch 2 console, there's very confirmed information on the system. According to some recent rumors, it will be a "conservative hardware evolution", and it may hit 4 teraflops in docked mode.
