Teen fashion retailer rue21 is closing all of its stores, including six in Massachusetts, after filing for bankruptcy this week. This is the third time the brand has sought bankruptcy protection since it first opened. The company is roughly $200 million in debt and wasn't able to rebound after the bankruptcy declared in 2017. According to a court filing, the CEO said the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted the company.The Pittsburgh-based company had 540 stores and nearly 5,000 employees nationwide.

Teen fashion retailer rue21 is closing all of its stores, including six in Massachusetts, after filing for bankruptcy this week.

This is the third time the brand has sought bankruptcy protection since it first opened. The company is roughly $200 million in debt and wasn't able to rebound after the bankruptcy declared in 2017.
