Apple has confirmed a glitch in its software is silencing alarms on some iPhones, after users took to social media to vent their frustrations.

iPhone users first noticed the problem several weeks ago, sharing stories of sleeping through meetings and school drop-offs.

They said the alarm was popping up on their screens but was not producing any sound.

Apple reportedly confirmed it was "aware of an issue causing some iPhone alarms to not play the expected sound" and was "working on a fix".

"Wait, is that how I overslept on a meeting last week?" one person wrote on social media.

"I never do that, and my wife and baby slept right through it too. I just assumed I somehow silenced it while still asleep."

Others said they had gone back to traditional alarms after previous glitches on iPhones, caused by time changes due to daylight savings.

"I did notice this recently on my iPhone, but I simply deleted my alarm times and re-added them. Now working properly for me," another said.

Although Apple is expected to roll out a fix to the issue, it is not expected until the next iOS update.

This is due around May 10 or soon thereafter, according to Forbes.
