A wedding celebration turned into a disaster last weekend when around 100 guests fell violently ill at the reception. Shocking images shows dozens of the well-dressed guests doubled over on chairs and being loaded into ambulances after about half of the 200 attendees were struck down with apparent food poisoning at the Jardín La Estancia banquet hall, south of Mexico City, on the night of April 27. Victims, who complained of stomach cramps, dizziness, vomiting and diarrhoea, were found by paramedics slumped in the venue's garden. Witnesses said they suspect the poisoning was caused by the wild mushrooms served on the menu. The food was reportedly sourced by an outside catering company, as reported by Need to Know. Concerned guests called emergency services and multiple attendees were taken to hospital by ambulance and private cars. They were stabilised and sent home after around five hours in hospital. "They were treated immediately, kept under observation, and then discharged," he said. "Various probably causes will be analysed, such as bacteria in the food." An investigation into the cause of the illness outbreak is ongoing. Last year, about 40 people — which included children as young as four and elderly people — attending a wedding in Melbourne reportedly fell ill with food poisoning.
