In a deadly accident, a vehicle, driving at a "high rate of speed", crashed into the gates of the United States White House complex, killing the driver on the spot, Arab News reported.

Authorities claimed that a driver died when his car struck a fence at the White House on Saturday night.

The US Secret Service stated in a statement that the driver was discovered dead in the car after the collision just before 10:30pm at one of the White House complex's outer perimeter gates.

The Central Intelligence Agency stated that although security measures were put in place, the White House was not in danger.

US Security Service Spokesperson in a statement said, "Security protocols were implemented as officers cleared the vehicle and attempted to render aid to the driver who was discovered deceased."

The driver has been identified but his identity has been kept hidden.

The Washington Metropolitan Police Department will take over the investigation into the deadly collision from the Secret Service, which will carry on with its own probe, according to the agency.

In a statement, they said, "At this time, the incident is being investigated only as a traffic crash by MPD's Major Crash Investigations Unit."
