Sing Sing! Beloved Kokoda Track porter and his motivational music - ABC listen

Original source (on modern site)

The Kokoda Track has huge significance in Australia's history due to the fierce fighting that occurred along it during WWII.

It is also regarded as one of the hardest walks in the world with only a few thousand attempting it every year.

Kokoda Courage is one of the Australian tour companies that works in collaboration with locals from the villages that scattered all over the track.

Some villagers host trekkers for the multi night walk and act as porters.

Many of the villagers are the descendants of people who showed incredible bravery and kindness by carrying out the Australian fallen and injured soldiers, transporting equipment or important messages along a track that was fraught with danger during WWII.

ABC Canberra's Adrienne Francis spoke to former Australian Army paratrooper Lee Campbell who is one of the directors of Kokoda Courage, and his client Kiz Welling, who serves with the Royal Australian Navy.

They were joined by Kokoda Track porter and singer Steven Rod Amulli who lives in Kokoda Village, PNG.
